When you start a new art piece, it may be a good idea to write your ideas down first. I know this sounds like the antithesis of creativity, but no one said there were rules.
Writing down your ideas first actually helps your creativity. It lets you flow with your ideas. Get mixed up in the details without distraction. Writing your creativity down also let’s you go back and look to see where you were.
You can see where you want to go.
When you start something new, a drawing, a painting, sheet music, whatever it may be, a plan is a foundation.
I will never tell you you must stick to your plan, because doing so IS the antithesis of creativity. You must allow yourself to wander through your ideas. A plan, an outline of your creative endeavor is merely a map.
Staying on your creative path starts with following through. A little outline guides your way. The best part, if you don’t like where your new thing is going, start over.
That’s what eraser’s are for.
