The creative pursuit. Or is the pursuit of creativity? We as artists tend to believe we must constantly be creative. As if we are the gatekeepers to humanity’s creativity. I go so far as to believe society expects it from us too.
OK, enough with the paranoia. Are you always creative? I know I’m not. It’s hard. Creativity is hard. And that’s perfectly fine. If being an artist was easy, everyone would have an online store and a blog and would post their work daily. But creativity isn’t easy.
It doesn’t work like that.
We are in a constant creative pursuit. Each time we attempt to make anything, we are practicing our craft and pursuing our creativity. But I think it’s more than just artistic. The creative pursuit is an every day “thing.” We have to be creative in our “regular” careers, our family life, everything.
If you asked me how to do this, I don’t have a perfect answer. My answer is to practice. Practice the craft of creativity. Pursue what you want to pursue in your creative life.
Creative Pursuit Takes Pursuing
One of the best way to practice creativity, is to simply do. Make different drawings.
Or maybe a photograph:
Wrap It Up
The creative pursuit is about the practice of your art. If you don’t practice, you can’t do. You can’t be creative by just sitting and thinking about it.
You must do. Even if you think your work sucks, it’s OK. Your doing it. That’s half the battle.
P.S. The creative pursuit works for everyone. But, sometimes we need a little inspiration, so check out some original artwork here. Of course, if you know someone in your life who needs a little more creativity, feel free to share.
